Kiwi have long beaks that they use to probe the ground for insects and worms. They are nocturnal, which means they are active at night. The kiwi is the best symbol for our country because it is so unique and special. Their feathers look more like hair than proper bird feathers. Sadly, kiwi are endangered, with only about 68,000 left in the wild. Everyone should do more to protect these wonderful birds. Female kiwi are larger than males and can lay eggs that weigh up to 450 grams. Some people believe the kiwi is the most interesting bird in the world.
